Halfway there…
Last night we had a bit of a party at the albergue celebrating the end of the first half.
Then, this morning, we passed the church and threshold that marks the halfway point in the journey. One of the stone pilgrims is looking east and the other is looking west. As a Camino walker, you pass through them and the simulated gate.
In the next town, as luck would have it, I ran into Aimee and her friends. Heather was aware of a local cathedral where we could get our “halfway” stamps and certificates, so after breakfast we headed out and got our documents. If for some reason I don’t make the full journey, at least I have a cool official document saying I was here!
I have about 4 more days of the plains and then we have 2 passes to complete. There was a topographic map on the wall last night that really shows what is coming.
After the mountains, the crowds are rumored to grow as it only takes 100 KM to get a final certificate. Good thing I practiced in Tokyo with my backpack. I don’t think it can be more crowded than a Tokyo subway! We shall soon see.
In three weeks, I will be
sitting on my flight home, so I am trying to stay in the moment and enjoy the
entire experience here. Tonight, I am staying in a small town, but
another nice albergue. This is my first
albergue with curtains on the bunk beds. It is the little things on
the Camino that delight this pilgrim.
If you are still following my ramblings, welcome to part 2 of the journey!

Congratulations, Pilgrim! The brown robe looks good on you…
ReplyDeleteI would be excited by curtains on my bunk too as I always worry about public drooling while I sleep. The walk seems plenty challenging without the mountain passes but I know you are up to it. I can hardly wait to see your stamps. Love you, #2
ReplyDeleteWow, totally open my eyes! Incredible!! the stone pilgrims are amazing!!!!
