Don’t worry, be happy

Last night it rained all night and it was still raining this morning.  I was hoping to get an early start as I had a long, 17+ mile day ahead of me.  When I woke up and heard the rain, I just rolled over and went back to sleep.  I checked the weather radar around 5:30am and it predicted that the rain would pass by 7:00am, so I packed and waited.

The other source I check nightly is my guidebook to see what’s in store for the next day.  It suggested another long path close to the highway.  My favorite.  So, today was to be a long boring walk in the rain.

As it turned out, the rain stopped just about as scheduled and I didn’t bother with the spa-inducing rain poncho.  The road did, in fact, follow the highway for the first part, but then wandered through some farms and fields.  A much better path.

Eventually, I found a few Camino family members and we enjoyed the walk together.

We ran across Petra, who looks like the happiest pilgrim on the Camino.  She carries her mat and rests every 2 hours.  She and her husband have walked the Camino multiple times and across the USA as well.

Tomorrow we start the hike up to Foncebadon at 1,440 meters.  Rumor has it that this is the best part of the Camino.  Then again, you can’t always believe what you hear.  I will let you know.

  1. First of all, dang, 19 miles. Well done! I think Perta looks like some who has mastered being in the moment and living in gratitude. If you see her again, tell her your sister wants to know what is going well today 💕

  2. Great work, Tim. Several memories came back from your pictures. You will see a lot more cows in Galatia. Yes there are stretches in our life on the path that seem long and boring. Good lesson for us all. Keep marching on the righteous path. Al
