Why?

Today was the start of my second week and the first really, really long day.  The scenery was lovely, but the walk was grueling.  It reminded me of my first day, when I started asking why am I doing this?

As I didn’t start with any of my family and/or friends, I decided to try an audiobook, so I continued with God Walk and the idea of seeking God while walking.  This does seem a lot like a “spirit journey” as I hope it is more than just an adventure in hiking.  I hope to learn more about myself in the process.  It is humbling to be walking where many other pilgrims have walked over hundreds of years.

One idea from the book is “unity walks” where communities come together and walk to show unity.  I like the idea of being in community with people who can find unity in at least some areas.  It is something that I would like to try when I get home.  Can you imagine a large group walking around the neighborhood to show unity?  This is one part of the Camino experience I hope to bring back.

Today’s surprises included an old pilgrim who was selling fruit to encourage us and a second guitarist out busking in the middle of nowhere.

These are nice interruptions and distractions.

Tomorrow is a shorter day, but possibly our first rainy day.  I had hoped for warmer days…
