The transcontinental journey
My transit to Spain didn’t spare any excitement...
Cancelled flight to start? Check! Delayed second flight, due to mechanical issues with a toilet? Yep! Multiple reservations and delays? That too…
Lots of opportunities for distraction from the goal of a grand adventure. However, I am happy to say that I arrived at my hotel a little past midnight where my lovely bed and shower were waiting for me. Sleep, where I am lying flat, is a true blessing!
My first “pilgrim breakfast” was wonderful! Somehow,
I can’t believe that this represents what true pilgrims eat, nor what I
will experience on the Camino. You gotta love an automatic latte
machine!
After my morning matcha latte from my favorite place in the
world, (yes, even better than Japan,) I am heading to the train station for my
train to Pamplona. One more night of pre-planned comfort and
predictability. Tomorrow I will start walking in earnest.
The real highlight so far has been the delightful people that I have met. God’s creation, shown in us, is truly amazing.
I even met a fellow bike rider who knew the history of Hodaka – thanks, Garth!
Also, my
hotel desk manager was kind enough to call my next hotel to arrange for my late
arrival. Very kind of him to help me!
