Real pilgrims don't have electricity
Updated: Tim survived his night without heat and sent these pictures which he asked me to add. Enjoy!
Today was supposed to be a short walk to my next albergue. Maybe I was enjoying the walk too much or perhaps I typed the address into the GPS incorrectly, but, regardless, I overshot the town and ended up in the middle of nowhere before I realized what had happened. The concept of heading back over the mountain was not a good one. I was feeling good and doing what pilgrims do... walking toward Santiago!
The place I found is another free-offering pilgrim house. This one is run by an Italian group and some part of the Italian Catholic Church. There are lots of pictures of various popes and reconstruction of this building. Tonight we will be cooking pasta together. Tomorrow will now become my short day, as I made more progress today.
The interesting part of this place is that there is no electricity here, by design. We will eat by candlelight. The building is an old church and a collection of bunk beds have been added. With no heat, I am going to be glad that I am still hauling my sleeping bag. Some of the pilgrims are resting from injuries and others are like me, just looking for a bed.
I will update this post tomorrow with pictures, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I am alive.

It can't be any worse than that night on Mt. Baldy! Praying that The Comforter will help you stay warm enough and healthy! OXO
ReplyDeleteTim! Cindy just shared your blog with me. I am in great admiration of this journey you are on. I may or may not add it to my bucket list. It's totally up to you to sway me one way or another. :P Praying for a safe and meaningful trip!
ReplyDeleteThis is Kelly Sim, btw
DeleteNot to be sacrilegious, but the picture of the dirt road is begging for a Yamaha... Glad to know that your injuries have only amounted to blisters at this point. Stay safe - looks like you're having an amazing time in a special setting! -clark
